Meet the Director

Also known as Mrs. C.J., she has been the owner and director of C.J.'s Dance Factory and the Prattville Ballet since 1982- for 40 years! She attended the High School of Performing Arts, Texas Christian University on full ballet scholarship, a teaching assistant to the master Igor Youskevitch at the University of Texas, studied child physchology at the University of Houston and obtained an undergraduate degree in Dance from Huntingdon College. Mrs. C.J. has a doctorate of Jurisprudence form Jones School of Law.

Mrs. Martin started dancing at 2 years old and was teaching by 16. The great, late Hallie Pritchard first instilled the love of dance in her. At the age of 10 she started intensively studying classical ballet at the Houston Ballet under the direction of Mme Popova, Jamer Clouser and Michael Lland, then danced professionally. Mrs. C.J. studied ballet on full scholarship at the San Francisco Ballet and taught at the San Francisco City Ballet. She studied classical ballet on full scholarship under the late Robert Joffrey at the Joffery Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and Maggie Black. She studied Luigi Jazz Technique with Luigi and also performed with the Houston Jazz Ballet under the late Patsy Swayze (mother of Patrick). 

    As a child Mrs. C.J. had the opportunity to be involved in many musical theatre productions at Houston's Children Theatre, Theatre in the Round and the Ampitheatre including: Cinderella, Sound of Music and bit parts in movies. Mrs. C.J. has received many awards for her outstanding choreography for many musical theatre productions: Oklahoma, Finnigans Rainbow, Music Man, Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She performed summer stock at the Crystal Palace in Astroworld in high school and college. She has performed lead roles in ballets including: Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Giselle, La Bayadere, and Coppelia.

Mrs. C.J. competed, choregraphed and has been a pageant director/coach in both Texas and Alabama. She was Little Miss Houston, Miss Southwest Houston, and a talent scholarship recipient. She now choreographs, judges and coaches contestants. Her students win top awards in pageantry and dance competitions annually.

Mrs. C.J. has a son Bobby, who is a big fan of the theatre and a daughter, Raquel who is the successful owner of Pike Road Dance Academy. She has three precious grandsons. She has been working on the renovation of the Martin Theatre and hopes to open soon to further share her love of the arts with youth in the community.
